A secret claymate
About 4 years ago my younger brother pasted away from brain cancer. He tried to fight it for 1 1/2 years and he finally told me he was tired and was ready to go. It was very difficult for the whole family, especially my mother. Since his passing my relationship with my mother has become somewhat strained.
We were out to breakfast the other day and she started to tell me a about this book she read. It was about a young man who had lost his sister and he wanted to do something that she would be proud of. Somehow we started talking about music. Which led me to tell her about some Christmas songs I new she would love and I wanted to let her listen to them. She then started talking about talk shows with this very nice youngman that had a voice like an angel. After about 5 mins. of sharing stories of the nice youngmen with voices of an angel. She asked me if I was talking about Clay Aiken. I was floored. How could she possibly know that I was talking about him, I never mentioned his name or shared the fact that I was a claymate in the closet.
This is a 72 year old woman that rarely watches TV. How could she has known about him. We both started to laugh and then we talked for another hour as we shared stories of our secret facination of Clay Aiken. I told her I would love to see him live, but the only performance was the Gala in October. She said she would love to go to. Unfortunately, I have to work that weekend, working for a CPA firm means tax extensions are due that weekend.
The whole point to my story is that we were able to reconnect with a common interest, our love for Clay Aiken music. Now I have someone I can share my Clay Aiken stories and music with. And if he does start touring, we can go together. So "Clay Aiken bringing families together". Thanks for letting me vent. I needed that.
