Happy Tears, for a Change

Look into this child’s eyes. Can you see OUR children? He cries for what he needs. He knows no other way. Only his mother’s hands, and heart And voice can calm him.

Are these OUR children's tears? Can we feed his hunger? Can we hear his voice? These things CAN change And when he cries again He’ll cry happy tears.

Look at her face Can you see she IS each one of us? We are the same. She cries for the needs of her child. Her heart will ache for him and break for him.

Are these OUR tears? Can we feel her pain? Can we even imagine her fears And her dreams? These things CAN change And when she cries again She will cry happy tears.

Now look at them; at all of their faces. Can you see they are like us; just in different places? They are people with dreams for their children and themselves. They cry out for help, with hope that their cries will be heard.

These must be OUR tears; OUR needs! These must be OUR dreams; OUR fears! We MUST listen to THEIR voices?

WE MUST change these things, And when we do, There will be Happy Tears…for a Change.
