Interesting Weekend and Week

06/23/09

Just when you think you're in a dull routine, life throws you a curve ball or 2 or 3, LOL!

Father's Day Eve- Police Chase Ends on My Street(a 6 house cul de sac)

My neighbor's daughter's boyfriend was on a dirt bike trying to outrun the law on Saturday night. .Luckily no children were out playing for more than one reason. He seemed like a nice fellow when we met him at our yard sale on the 13th, but he's one of 2 men accused of raping a young girl with developmental disabilities; see Chattanooga Times Free Press for more info.

We still don't know if they caught the guy for speeding and reckless driving

Daytrip Turns Into 2 Night/3 Day Adventure

My mom(who's name is Helen) and I decided to leave early Sunday morning for Helen, GA .. I have had a lot of problems with chronic illnesses and we'd not been out of the house very much. We should have expected trouble when we started having car trouble about 25 miles from home, but we had the car checked out(the battery had been dry last weekend and the starter had a short in it on Sunday, but the mechanic thought we'd be okay). We didn't pack any clothes, or toiletries except for a few essentials, money and a camera(will post photos later). We wound around TN, partly 20=30 miles out of the way due to my poor navigation(lol) and older highways that weren't marked with many road signs, but we saw part of TN(around Reliance) we'd never seen before, then some curvy roads in N. Georgia over towards Helen. Since we got a late start, we decided to spend the night and the car wouldn't start again when we got to the motel. We didn't have any clothes but what we wore on Sunday with us, so Mom got undies at the dollar store in Helen. We walked a bit and ate out in the clothes we wore down there; then we hung them out to air out and we slept in clean undies and a blanket, LOL, and got back in our Sunday clothes to walk around town on Monday morning and then we headed to Tallulah Falls, GA (almost to the North Carolina, South Carolina state borders) , then decided to wind around North Carolina(another unexpected turn of events) towards Franklin, NC, where the starter finally gave out at a Shell station within a few feet of the Microtel Hotel in Franklin-had a vacancy for us. The car was towed and we hoofed it up a hill to the hotel(we called with help from a lady at Shell and our trusty cell phones-and they had a vacancy). I couldn't climb into the tow truck , due to a bad knee. Then, after we checked in, Mom went to check on finding some clean clothes (We swear we're going to pack an emergency overnight bag and keep it in the trunk , LOL! ). Mom found some at Big Lots plus toothbrushes, brush and toothpaste, but since I'm plus-sized and mom is just a tiny bit, all she could find for us were Joe Boxer mens' tshirts and boxer shorts. So we wore those yesterday afternoon and evening, and wore our Sunday clothes again today(at least we showered and aired our clothes out). We still had fun in NC and GA, and even took pictures. Both motels just charged around 60 dollars per night total for both of us and they weren't bad. They had great swimming pools and free wireless internet, but our suits and my laptop were packed away at home, of course :D! Our meals, lodging, and clothing weren't too expennsive, but the new starter and towing was around 400 dollars-we could have taken a plane trip for that ! From Franklin-we headed to Murphy-then towards Cleveland, TN down to Chattanooga. As kind as the people were and as much fun as we had despite our troubles in NC and GA, we cheered loudly this afternoon when we saw the welcome to Tennessee sign! It meant we were close to home, at last.
