A Clay Nation Pedagogy
11/07/07
All I ever needed to know, I learned in the Clay Nation
(with sincere apologies to Robert Fulghum)
Most of what I really need to know about how to live, and what to do, and how to be, I learned in the Clay Nation. Wisdom was not at the top of the record company food chain, but there in the top blog at the OFC.
These are the things I learned. Share clack. Don?t postwhore. Discuss the post, not the poster. Don?t double-dip from the vault. Don't take credit for Clay pictures that aren't yours. Say you are sorry and edit accordingly. Wash your hands after reading the tabloids. Clear your cookies. Clay?s voice is good for you. Remember the ticketmaster refresh rule. Live a balanced life?step away from the computer for a while. Learn about geography and James Madison, sing along on the rare occasion that you hear Clay?s songs on the radio, photoshop some and blog and write Christmas stories and skits and dance with Clay onstage and always, always hunt for better tickets.
Take a nap every afternoon while the clack is downloading. When you go out in the world, watch for ATDW inventories and store placement, listen for Clay songs on the store sound system, wear your OFC t-shirt, carry a MOAM for impromptu clayversions, and stick together. During Clay appearances, always be aware of hair and socks, and clothing and vision correction methodology. Avoid the sewers and gutters.
Think of what a better world it would be if we all, the whole world, had clack time at 3 o'clock every afternoon and then lay down with our autographed Clay bobbleheads for a nap. Or we had a basic policy to always trust Clay to bring it, to always have his back, to ignore the haters, to pretend that we like each other, and to ?buy it, even if it?s crap.? And it is still true, no matter how old you are, that it?s more fun to always be 12 years old with credit cards and a new Clay calendar to buy.
