My 15 minutes of fame

01/27/08

My experience as B101

So, I wasn't going to post anything at all. Hardly ever here anyway, but after leaving NY and having 3 or 4 people approach me the day after the show while at the airport, I thought I'd post a small blurb from the March 9th matinee.

The entire reason behid the trip was not even to see the show as much as to get out of town for a much needed weekend away. It just so happpened my birthday fell on the same day as Spamalot. So I got tickets for the matinee thinking they would be easier to afford.

Well...So, my friend and I spent Friday and Saturday looking at a lot, walking everywhere and shopping. Having a good time. Even spent an hour or 2 at the Guggenheim So then Sunday comes and the first thing we did was the Empire State Building. Went back to the hotel and fixed our hair. 50 mile an hour winds that day, and after being 86 stories up, our hair was really a mess

So we decided instead of walking to the theater we would take a cab. We were very close from the hotel, but with the wind.... Well, we got there and waited. And waited and waited some more. Finally they let us in and as we sat down a bunch of different people kept asking me if I was ready to go on stage. I said 'yeah, sure, but there is no guarantee I will be the one.' So, the first half was hilarious. Second half came and the killer rabbit destroyed. These sparkly gold letters appear and the cast on stage was trying to figure out what the word said or meant. Well, then they realized it was a seat number. At this point I still hadn't caught on. Until the spotlight was on me and then the character Patsy, I think, was standing next to me asking me to stand up. And then retrieved the grail. And asked me to sit down. And I thought to myself well, that wasn't so bad. Didn't even get to the stage.
Then he goes back up on stage and they are talking about how to reward the peasant for finding the grail. Next thing I know, he comes back to get me, walks me up on stage and there I am. Looking the the guy playing King Arthur. He asked me my name. I said Jean. He asked my last name, I said Futrell. So then he repeated it. And then the cast repeated it. Then they sang a song. Presnted me with a bronze or some kind of trophy of a foot. a certificate and then a quick Polaroid snapshot of me on stage with the cast. It was nice. The entire cast, well, those out on stage at the time were all very sweet and friendly. I felt so at home.
I was thinking it would have been nice to have the cast sign my playbill since I had the picture with them, but Clay was the only one who came out to sign. Really wish I'd had the others autographs too though.

I only wish I could have stayed up on stage longer. Felt more comfortable there than anywhere else.
I almost wonder if it would have been any different if they had known it was my birthday that day. But I doubt they would have done too much different, if anything.
So that's it.

Oh, I would like to see the show again. Felt like i got gyped. Missed out on that 10 or 15 mninutes of the show and couldn't watch it from being up on the stage.

Any chance of a refund? :)
