Fine Wine
10/01/05Lately, I have been reading some discussion about a segment of Clay’s fans being, shall I say, a bit long in the tooth. I have the feeling that I could probably be considered one of these fans. Although I do have all my own teeth, however long, I’m still not part of the younger demographic. In fact, I think I’m probably off most of the charts. And I don’t mean the 0-12 one. The thingy is (inside joke) that I don’t give a rat’s ass, and I don’t think Clay does either. I refuse to be intimidated by those who claim that it is not good, not good at all, for Clay to have so many older fans, especially females. Well, excuse me! I can’t help it that I’m mature. In fact, it’s cool being me right now. I’m way beyond the point of worrying what others think of me and how I spend my free time. I have some disposable income that I can dispose of anyway I wish without anyone asking how I spend it. I can “talk” to my online Clay fan friends and no one is whining for the computer. (Well, maybe DH, but he’s OK with a few games of Solitaire and checking in to see his stock numbers go down. Hee) I’m not a big time concert goer, but many older fans are. And we keep the buzz going for Clay by bidding on anything he’s touched, buying tickets, sometimes no matter what the price, gathering Clack for the entire Clay Nation, showing up for his TV appearances, and supporting his charitable endeavors. I think most stars would kill to have fans like us. Sure, I want Clay’s fan base to grow. Who doesn’t? And it will. I’m sure of that. But, we have contributed much to Clay‘s success. I think we older fans should be proud of that. Just don’t get me started on the female aspect of our demographic since criticism of THAT really burns my toast.
