Trust

I pulled out my tattered Webster’s Dictionary today and looked up the word “trust.” Here are some definitions I found:

“n.---assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something” “v---to place confidence; to be confident”

As I’ve matured, I’ve found that I don’t trust too many people or things anymore. I guess it’s called cynicism. In fact, I could probably count whom or what I trust using my fingers and toes. The strangest thing has happened to me, though. I have found that there is a person I don’t even really “know” whom I trust. His name is Clay Aiken. I don’t trust that he is perfect or has no faults. I don’t trust that he has moments when he’s not really so pleasant or easy to be around. I don’t trust that he isn’t possibly short-tempered or sarcastic or impatient. I can see him being all of these things, just as many are. But I do trust that he is whom he says he is. It’s the oddest feeling to trust someone like this, but I am as sure of this as I am of anything in my life.
