Happy Saturday!
03/24/07Can you sense the excitement? Can you feel the stirring?
Spring is in the air. Melodies of birds fill the air. The scent of life is everywhere.
Colors spring to sight, Glories give new light... New meanings to the day,
And life so enriched... When spring is in the air.
Inspired by life and love

Spring is definately in the air. This morning I sat on the steps enjoying the morning sun. The wonder and harmony of birds filled the air. A woodpecker tapped it's own rythmn of spring. Moments later two robins landed on a branch in our barren tree. I smiled, listened, and watched as winter makes way for spring.

Across the street a beautiful red cardinal perched itself upon our neighbors evergreen. Watching the birds is very peaceful and reminds me of my grandmother. Grandma enjoyed watching the birds & always loved the cardinals and blue jays the best.
I love the natural melody that can be heard in the singing of birds.

The scent of fresh lilacs in spring also brings my grandma to mind.
As a child my favorite place to be was at my grandmother’s house. She had several lilac bushes in her backyard. It was always a treat when grandma and I would go out and take clippings from her lilac bushes.
Grandma had this gorgeous glass vase with crystal etching. We would fill it with fresh lilacs and then visit in the kitchen.
My grandmother made the best apple crisp. She and I would listen to her transistor radio in the kitchen while we enjoyed our ice cream and warm apple crisp. Grandma's favorite song was "Up, Up, and away in my beautiful balloon". We enjoyed singing that one together. Whenever I hear that song it takes me to a peaceful place.
My grandmother remains in my life in so many ways. She is here in the singing of birds, songs we shared in the kitchen, warm apple crisp with ice cream, and most definitely in the scent of fresh lilacs in spring.

Tonight we will create new memories as we share dinner with family. We are meeting my brother in-law Craig for dinner. I plan to savor this time we have together before he leaves for Iraq.
Simple moments shared together are among our greatest blessings. We often take them for granted until our loved one's are apart from us. Sometimes it's those very moments that give us strength to endure hard times. Thinking about Craig leaving for Iraq is not easy. We will miss him so much while he is gone and most certainly will carry him in our prayers.
Update FYI: If you want to take pictures during family dinners, make sure you have batteries in your camera! LOL
If we are cheerful and contented, all nature smiles. The birds sing more sweetly, and the sun, moon, and stars all appear more beautiful, and seem to rejoice with us. Orison Swett Marden
