#6 Beau and Me

04/07/06

A few days ago we had a tornado warning. Not unusual for NC. I've lived in central and coastal NC and we get our share of hurricanes and tornados. A few years ago a tornado blew through our town and did some major damage. We were very lucky but some homes in the area were badly damaged. We take "warnings" seriously in these parts. So when the weather kicked up a few days ago we knew the drill. The sky was black and ominous so we holed up in the closet beneath the stairs with water, radio and flashlights. This is a very big and long closet and Beau thought it was quite cool to be in there with mom and dad. He settled in with his head in my lap and we waited and waited. We lost power and tried to get some information from friends not in the area to see if we were still safe. Our cell phones were still working. I was worried about my son and his family a mile away as their home is older and not built with hurricane specs. They were o.k. By this time Beau was sucking the air out of the closet so we had to open the door. He pants when he's excited which is tough in small quarters! He was grinning and just thought all this was so much fun. My hubby was so thoughtful to make sure he brought me my MP3 player with Clay songs. He's a keeper. After a while we could see lightening over toward the ocean so we assumed all was well. It was blowing out to sea. We left the confines of the closet and got back to our normal routine. A couple of hours later I was looking for man's best friend and could not find him. I walked past the closet door and there he was still in the closet enjoying his new room. Uh, uh. Out you go Mr. Beau!
