Maybe Clay really wants a hit record. Maybe Clay wants radio play. Maybe Clay has been convinced by Clive, JFL or whoever that he has a real and genuine problem getting radio play and a cover of a sure-fire hit that Programming Directors love is the best way to break that barrier. Maybe Clay is really happy that they are going through so much effort to try and help him break that barrier. Maybe it's a sound, solid business decision that needs to be made at a time when his entire career is threatened.
