My weekend "adventure"
03/30/06edited again at the bottom
Why is it that whenever I go anywhere away from home, I always seem to have some type of "adventure?"
I was invited to fly to Florida (paid for) to drive home a motor home. (Not me driving it though!) Although it was located in Sarasota, we had been talking about taking a long weekend to go to Animal Kingdom to go on the new ride, Expedition Everest...but couldn't really afford it. And here was our chance!
We had decided we would fly into Orlando and stay the weekend to go to a couple parks and then drive down to Sarasota on Monday to drop off the rental car and drive the motor home back.
So we leave Friday after work and the flight is delayed. Not bad - about a half hour. So we get down there and the weather is the same as it is here in CT. What the heck? It was only in the 60s during the day and 40s at night! And it was spring break so it was so crowded. Oh well.
Everything goes smoothly, believe it or not. We get the rental car and find the hotel, grab a bite to eat and hit the sack. We get up on Saturday to go to Animal Kingdom. I felt a tinge of a cold coming on, but tried not to think about it. We got to Animal Kingdom, and it wasn't too crowded there, which was good.
We went right to the new ride and only had to wait 20 minutes. It was okay, but I thought it would be better - but it's definitely the best ride at Animal Kingdom! Then we almost got ourselves some free breakfast. They were having Character Dining with Donald in Restaurantosoarus, and you are supposed to go up, put your name in and pay, (although, we didn't know that at first) so we didn't know what everyone was standing around for, so we just walked in. No one said anything. We were just about to grab ourselves a tray and food, when we realized there was no cashier. By then, everyone was coming up to us asking if they could help us, and we were like no thanx - then we realized what it was. Oops! We should have just kept our mouths shut and grabbed some chow! Haha! Oh well. There was nothing else open yet to eat, so we went on Dinasaur and It's a Bug's Life, where we got right in on both. Then decided to go to MGM. It was more crowded there. But we got right on Sounds Dangerous, The Great Movie Ride, The Backlot Tour, and then headed over to the Tower of Terror which was the crowded area. Tower of Terror was a 60 minute wait, so we got a fast pass and got in line for the 80 (ACK!) minute wait for the Rockin' Roller Coaster. And it WAS an 80 minute wait. But I got to see Clay's face again in there. :-) Did you know there is a poster on the wall of that ride of the Disney Mania CD with Clay's face right smack in the middle of it???!!!
By the way, we didn't hit every attraction, but that's okay cuz I've been on everything already, cuz I go every year in September when it's not so crowded.
That night, I was starting to feel sick, so I went to Walgreens and got some Zicam and cold medicine, and I started taking it right away.
The next day, I didn't feel any better, but not any worse either. That day we went to Magic Kingdom where everything had a long wait, so we used the fast pass option to the hilt that day. Got on everything we wanted to go on, except Pirates of the Carribean cuz it was closed for refurbishment for our future enjoyment. We got stuck on Space Mountain - right before we took off, so they gave us a pass to come back to that ride any time we wanted, as well as a pass to get on any other attraction in the park. So that really worked out! We only got to go on everything one time, whereas when we go in September, we can go several times, cuz there's hardly anyone there, but that's okay.
So it was pretty good. The third day, I was feeling even worse, but still not that bad....yet. So we drive down to Sarasota to get the motor home. That motor home sucked!!! It was a HUGE bus, but it was SO bouncy and SO shaky!!! And it was so cold in there too! There was a cold breeze blowing on me the whole time. Other than that, it was pretty nice. It had a couch and a chair and table with 4 chairs and a full kitchen, a shower, a bathroom, a vanity and a bedroom in the back.
So we're driving along, when I realize the toilet wouldn't flush! No running water! They forgot to hook it up before we left! Luckily, they had 2 bottles of spring water, so I filled it up with that every time I had to flush. We drove until about 4 a.m. Of course, I was falling in and out of sleep the whole time in the passenter seat. Traveling makes me do that. Even though I was so uncomfortable. When we stopped, we were able to turn the generator on, so it warmed up a bit. It was sleepable. When I woke up at about 9:30 a.m. I was so sick - I had a fever, kept getting hot, then cold, stuffed up nose, sore throat, and I felt awful. All I wanted to do was lay down and go to sleep but I couldn't cuz it was freakin' freezing in the bus! We were driving again, and the generator had been turned off, and it was so shaky and bouncy. It was SO incredibly uncomfortable. I could not wait to get home!
Finally, I made it home, and had to call in sick the last couple days to work, cuz I am. Finally, my sore throat is gone, but I cannot breathe at all! Or sleep, cuz I'll lay on one side and I'll get all stuffed up, so 2 minutes later I'll flip to the other side, and as it starts to drain, I'll blow it out, but 2 minutes later, I'm stuffed up again! So I flip over and it starts to drain to the other side, so I blow it out and it gets stuffed up again!!! It's a vicious cycle! And it sucks! I HATE not being able to breathe! UGH!
Anyway, so glad to be out of that motor home and sleeping in my own bed! Just wish I could breathe! Heh. If anyone has any suggestions on some good cold medication, I'll take them! :)
ETA: I broke down last night and had to use Afrin to clear my nasal passages. I know it's not good to use that stuff, but I couldn't take it anymore. It's worn off, and I can't breathe again! Waaahhh!!! I tried going to work today, and my boss sent me home after 1 1/2 hours! Everyone said I looked terrible. Thanx. Thanx for responses, and thanx for the tip on the Claritin - I will have to try it! I just need to somehow get myself to the store....right now I'm going back to bed!
ETAA - I can't believe I forgot to post this - I even thought about it when I was there, and still forgot to write about it. Here goes. We spent some time in Waldo, FL. I about died when I saw the sign welcoming me there! We stopped for gas, to use the restroom, and even ate dinner there. I chuckled the whole time I was there! I even bought some stuff just so I would have a receipt! HAHA! And no, didn't stop on purpose, as the person I was with doesn't have a clue. And it wasn't my idea to stop either, which makes it even better! hehe
