American Idol 4
07/20/05Last week sorta sucked. In addition to my laptop dying, I took a semi-nasty fall on Friday. I sustained a deep thigh contusion and also strained some tendons and muscles in my right arm and leg. Thankfully, I didn't break anything but I couldn't do much more than lie on the couch for a few days. I couldn't use the computer a whole lot because it hurt to move my arm around. It even hurt to turn the pages of a book.
So what did I do to pass the time? I finally watched this season's American Idol. The only parts of AI3 that I saw were a few clips my friend had sent me to snark on and the episodes with Clay. This season, my friend sent me entire episodes to make fun of but I never got around to watching them until this weekend.
Wow. Those kids couldn't sing harmony unless the name of the song they were singing was "Harmony". Even then, your definition of singing would have to be pretty generous. Individually, there were a few competent singers but together they sounded like cats in heat. I watched some of the guys semifinals when they originally aired. What. You can only mock 7th Heaven for so long before the bitterness sets in when you remember that Brenda Hampton has made a fortune off that crap. Back on topic, I didn't expect AI4 to be that bad from what I had seen of the season.
And I don't get the comparisons of Carrie Underwood to Kelly Clarkson. They look and sound nothing alike. Carrie reminds me of Alicia Silverstone. Jessica Sierra on the otherhand was a lot like Kelly to me. The hairstyle, the wardrobe, the raccoon eyes, the giggle, the speech patterns and mannerisms all reminded me of Kelly. If I didn't know better I would have thought she was Kelly's sister. Her older, less talented and less neck-having sister but sister nonetheless. It's too bad she chose that horrid LeAnn Rimes song because I really liked her voice. Anyway, I won't be going to any AI concerts in the near future.
