Theatre Is For "Special" People
09/03/09Oh God...what did I get myself into?
I first started my theatre class on Tuesday. I have always loved theatre (obviously, since I'm a theatre major). I got to class an hour early and sat with my best buddy reciting lines from various Python movies. It was a magical experience. The classroom was empty until everyone had 15 minutes left to make it to class. The professor didn't show until 5 til. I'm not sure which surprised me more, his partial tardiness or his appearance.
Now, don't get me wrong. After being taunted for being overweight all my life, I am NOT one to jump to conclusions or judge a book by its cover. No way will I do that. However, it is kind of hard to do that when you have a professor has the build of Vincent Price and a face that's a combination of Joan Rivers and Steven Tyler. On second thought, he has the lips of Tyler and basically looks like him with NO HAIR, so let's go with just Steven Tyler.
I decided to let it go. He seemed like a rather lively person, so I paid attention to the lecture and went about my business. Here's the "fun" part...
Have you ever been in a situation, whatever it may be, and you KNOW that you SHOULD NOT LAUGH? One of those inopportuned times to where if you laugh you'll make an ass out of yourself and the teacher will make an ass out of you for a second time after you gain control over the giggles. Yeah...that almost happened. My friend decided to lean over and whisper something to me.
"I spy a comb-over." I looked at him and then back at the professor and sure enough, there it was. His bald head in all of it's glory with hair in little bits all over. There on top of his head was an attempted comb-over. It WOULD HAVE BEEN a comb-over....if he had enough hair to actually do it. Let's call it a peek-a-boo shall we? His head peek-a-boos through the strips of hair...yeah..we'll go with that.
I had to silently giggle and shake it off, compose myself, and get back to work. FOCUS SELF! (I paid him back today. We were discussing August Wilson and I pointed out "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" in our book. He's the kind of guy who laughs at anything random. I pointed that out to him mid lecture and he lost it. Ah, sweet payback lol)
After class let out, I had various Aerosmith songs going through my head as I walked down the hall. Did I sign up for "Walk This Way 101"? I think not. I'm going to make the best of it. I've heard that he's the best of the best, on our campus anyway...
Here's to theatre....oh boy.
