MY POEM FOR THE VALENTINE'S CONTEST

02/08/07

Here is the poem I submitted yesterday, just a few hours before the deadline. I always wait to do things the last minute! I wrote the poem during the weekend, but I didn't send it right away. I guess, I was chicken...:)

Originally the poem was a little sad. I was worried about it, because Valentine's Day is supposed to be an optimistic holiday, right? However, the poem reflected my personality, which is usually melancholic, so why not to be true to myself?

My poem was of the "I can't make you love me" kind. After I cut the second part, the poem became a more general (and generic) Valentine’s poem. I am glad I removed the second part, even though I felt like I was ripping my heart in two, because I got rid of the more personal verses, and more obviously directed to Clay. I’m glad I did that.

The way I went about writing it was that first I eliminated the words I didn't want to use in the song "A Thousand Days".

I knew from the start that nothing would be "spinning" in my poem. There would be no "balls" either. Also, I wouldn't want any "angels", because for me putting "angels" and "love" together is a little too much. Everything else in the song was pretty much usable, so there it goes.

For You

My love, I won’t hold back I fall for you a thousand times Days and nights When you’re right beside me, the skies light up

Would you notice? You are the sun. Would you believe it? You are the moon. Do I promise? Well, my eyes don’t lie. “atlast” 2-06-2007

I am a shy person, so posting my stuff is an act of courage. I saw many other people had the courage to post their poems in the Contest forum, and I did as well. I guess, it is easier to be bold on the Internet, because you dont't have to be face to face with other people who may judge you. Besides, I have learned, this Fan Club is a friendly environment. So I will share the other part of my poem, that I did not send out. THOUSAND

My love, I said what I feel I need to fight a thousand fights Days and nights.

You are not mine You won’t promise me the stars You won’t reach out The way I feel about you I ought to let it go And my soul will drown.

A thousand hearts reach out to you Not just mine.

To me, taking part in the contest has been a gesture of support, not a competition. That's what motivated most people who participated. I'm sure Clay will enjoy seeing that the contest has been such a hit. THERE IS NEVER TOO MUCH LOVE he can receive, especially if expressed in such non-threatening way as short love poems - no matter how sappy.

Clay, thanks for the challenge and the fun.
