Sounds of Summer

I heard the sounds of summer one day as I walked along with my dog;

The moo of the cows, the coo of the dove, the funny tones of the frog.

My feet seemed to squish in the dewy grass on our early walk that day,

And a chorus of birds sang in harmony while the farmer mowed the hay.

The drone of the bees, up in the trees, told another day was born

And from out on the highway, my ear picked up on a faint, but audible, horn.

As the day wore on things became more-distinct - windows were opened wide;

Music drifted on the air while a meal was being eaten inside.

Children squealed, laughed and called from their backyard swimming pool;

Water lapping, adults clapping as they watched their family get cool.

Dogs barked from all around; mosquitoes zoomed in for a meal;

Distant thunder rolled around and I heard a church bell peal.

As crickets formed an evening band, fire-flies lit the sky;

Cheers were heard from baseball fans at a small park nearby.

The summer day came to a close, with a gentle rainfall,

And I drifted off to dreamland - praising God's nature and all.
