Kids and Halloween

Hope you’re doing well! Halloween is almost here, and it’s such a busy night for us. We have a lot of kids, so we have to make sure we’re prepared with plenty of candy. I remember when we first moved here, we had no idea so many kids came through our neighborhood. It didn’t take long for us to start running low on our supply, so Ron had to quickly go out to the store to pick up more. Fortunately, he made it home before the candy was all gone, but barely!
From that time on, we always made sure we had enough candy, with extra to spare. We kept some for ourselves to munch on, but most of the leftovers were shared with our fellow employees at school. Now, Ron takes it all with him to work, and it's gone in no time.
When we lived in the southwestern part of Virginia, our home was located out in the country, so we maybe had nine kids stop by. Going from that small number to approximately 120-140 kids was an adjustment, but we love it! It’s a fun night, and the parents do a wonderful job dressing their kids in the most adorable and creative costumes.

At first, when the doorbell rings with our first visitors, Caroline barks and is the first to greet them. She doesn’t get too close, because she can’t quite understand why they’re dressed so differently and wonders what these strange little beings are. Then after that, Caroline just wants to go out and stand in the front yard and watch the children. She stays there for the longest time, just staring and trying to figure out why there is so much activity and is rather fascinated by it all. Caroline has always been curious and likes to be right in the middle of the action.
After several hectic hours of passing out candy, the vehicles dwindle through the streets and the kids head home with all of their sweet treasures. They will finally drift off to sleep after a tiring but thrilling night.

Another Halloween will have come and gone, until next year when we’ll hear all of the chatter and excitement in the neighborhood once again, as the children make their rounds to collect their goodies.

Hope your Halloween is filled with lots of treats and NO tricks!
