This isn't my dream....
01/25/07Okay, so I really wish I were either a.) back home or b.)living with a different roommate. Anyone want to crack a guess as to why? I'll tell you. It's because I watch Grey's Anatomy. Okay, yes, I know it's a great show. I love it and it's my favorite show on television. I only wish that my roommate wasn't so into the show also. If she wasn't into the entire Thursday night line-up and wasn't so eager to spoil the episode for me before I even see it, I'd be a happier camper.
Okay, so I should probably mention why I couldn't watch this totally awesome show. I belong to a Christian organization on my campus called "Intervarsity Christian Fellowship" or for short "IV". This particular group has grown close to my heart over the past couple years I've been here at UWW. Many of my Christian friends are in this org and I enjoy being there. I can express myself religiously and pray and sing and not feel ashamed about it. Not that I normally do, but...that just happens to be the case. So, this org meets on Thursday nights at 7:30 and goes until 9pm. Tonight in particular, I met this really nice guy on my way out of the meeting and we happened to talk all the way back to my dorm. I can only assume that he's a Christian since he was at IV and he seemed like a genuinely nice guy. So, woohoo!!! The night was going all awesome until I decided to go back to my room. I walk in there and my roommate decides to call her sister or someone and talk about Grey's because tonight's episode was apparently sooooooo awesome! I decided to leave and went all the way down to the other side of the quad and check my phone messages to avoid having the episode spoiled before I see it. So, I called my sister...who wanted to talk with me about Grey's. I told her I hadn't seen it and she was, like, go check and see if it's on the website yet. Well, it wasn't and I was going to call my sister back and say that I would have to wait to see it until tomorrrow. My sister was perfectly fine with waiting to discuss this splendifabulous episode with me. Yea! However, I went back into my room and went to check my e-mail and other stuff. My roommate decides she wants to call someone else and chat about Grey's. She doesn't even have the courtesy to tell me "hey, you might want to leave the room if you don't want the episode spoiled". She just starts talking. I leave the room quickly and go to talk to a friend of mine that lives 3 rooms down while my roommate talks to this person and dishes the info. I came back to the room and she was still in the same spot as she was when I left and watching "Men in Trees". I don't particularly like that show, but I wanted to express my feelings. I said, "Can you let me know prior to the next time you're going dish about Grey's so I can leave the room?" She decides to get all up in my face about how she can talk about whatever she wants to with whomever she wants to because it's her room, too. I don't know about much, but I was thinking that that was disrespectful towards me.
So, I wondered: is it too much to ask; my request to warn me prior to discussing certain things? Is it so bad not wanting an entire episode spoiled before I even get the chance to see it? Or should I just expect this from a roommate who watches the same shows I do. It's also the same thing with Desperate Housewives. This upcoming Sunday I will most likely be babysitting for the single parent Bible study through this local church. I've been doing that for the past couple years I've been here at school. Yet, it seems that me wanting to be religious and help people gets in the way of a tv schedule. And I seem to not be able to watch programs when I want. In the end, I know IV and worship and helping others is more important. I have no doubt about that. But why does everyone else have to be not in that mindset?
