Happy Mother's Day to all the moms in the Clay Nation.

This year Mother's Day is a mixed blessing for this mom.

On the one hand, it is a reminder of all the lovely times I've had with all three of my children and of Mother's Days past.

On the other hand, right now it is painful due to my youngest son's medical condition and not being able to be with him during this most difficult time.

I haven't updated on his condition for a while. He is holding his own. His chemotherapy has started and other than significant fatigue, no major side effects at this point. Weekly lab and MRI's to check for complications and to monitor the brain tumor. His spirits are mostly good and I am so grateful for that. We all remain hopeful. But, of course, I have those moments of wondering about what is going to happen. I can't go there too often or it would be overwhelming.

This year has brought some positive along with the heartbreaks. My daughter has stepped up to the plate and has been a tremendous help to me during this crisis and during my own health crisis. I am so proud of her for the maturity she has shown and, of course, grateful and blessed with her love.

My oldest son has also been quite supportive and has been in touch more than he has in recent years. (He's a bit of a loner, although married, and sometimes loses track of how long it has been between contacts.)

I know many are applauding their relationships with their mothers today. I don't have that, so my focus is on my relationship with my children. Being a mother is sometimes trying, but it is truly the most incredible gift I've had in my life.

Another gift in my life has been Clay and the Clay Nation. What joy that man has given me and the community of fans he has developed is a treasure. Thank you Clay for bringing music back into my life, and for the comfort you give me when I need to hold onto hope.
