Clothes Make the Woman

08/24/06

I love clothes, especially those that are classic and sophisticated with just a subtle twist to make them fresh and contemporary. Let's ignore the fact that my husband calls me Thing One based on my "at home" attire. I don't wear mismatched lounge pants and T-shirts all the time. Indeed, I'm known for my casual, elegant leisure time ensembles. Here, for example, is a candid shot of me touching up the wrinkles on my bedspread. (A wrinkle's just as unattractive on your bedding as it is on your face -- that's my motto.)

I also believe strongly that clothes should match the moment. If you're going to a sports event, choose a sporty, comfortable outfit that's appropriate. For example, at a hockey game you might want to wear a hockey jersey.

I've recently gotten the idea in my head that I might want to drive aimlessly around the country just chilling out for a week or so. I wouldn't be looking for anybody. Honest. But what to pack? I think this outfit would be versatile enough to wear most of the time, and I think it might be popular among the menfolk.

What do you think? I think I'd look great, especially if I wore some thick colored tights under it.

So, that leads me to my next challenge: What to wear to any of the upcoming Not A Christmas Concerts I might be lucky enough to attend. My requirements: sophisticated, cheerful, flattering, and a touch of holiday whimsy.

Sequins?

No, I think that might be a little over the top. Looks good on him, though.

A sweatshirt under something formal?

No, that's been done.

Ah, this is perfect -- I think I've got my outfit (make sure you click to enlarge):

Do you think the built-in monkey bra behind the first dress is too much?

I don't either.
