The Live 8 Concerts
07/03/05I really enjoyed the concerts today. CTV Canada did a great job hosting them, in my opinion. The VJ's did a simple job and made their priority the music. And it was very cool seeing a lot of really great performers.
I did think of Clay while watching these concerts. I started wondering about his charitable efforts. I admire his efforts to make a positive difference with his celebrity. He doesn't have to do it but he does anyways.
I do wonder, though, how cool it would be to hear Clay's work relate to his singing, just like the artists and bands did today on Live 8. After all, he is a singer. That is what he is known for.
I also wonder if he would receive more publicity if he sang for his charitable endevours rather than acted quietly on the sidelines. Now, don't get me wrong, I appreciate his pursuits regardless of how much spotlight he gets. But, wouldn't it be more profitable (not in a money sense specifically) for both his career and his work for charity if he received more publicity for them? That is the point of being a celebrity ambassador to a cause, right? I keep thinking about the difference between Clay's BAF work, his trip for the Tsunami relief and his latest work in Uganda with today's Live 8. The first two did recieve some publicity but I don't think a lot of people besides his more loyal fans are really aware about it. Everyone knows about Angelina's Jolies work but I would bet very few are aware of Clay's. Add on to that his top secret work in Uganda (or should I say ******), and it makes me scratch my head in confusion. Now, compare his publicity to the what just happened on Live 8 today. There is no compitition. And so I'm wondering, would Clay's charitable works be more publicized if they related to what he is known for, his singing? (Of course, the level of his stardom is also a factor, in my opinion.)
Regarding this blog, I am not saying that Clay should of been at Live 8. In fact, I think he would have been out of place there since he isn't as well known as the artists/bands that performed are. But when I look at Live 8 and see singers, sing, and then look at Clay and see him not sing, I wonder wtf just a little bit.
