Today’s montage: The Single One by goldarngirl

goldarngirl chose a totally cool song by Kalan Porter (Canadian Idol 2 winner) called Single. I love this song!! Its kind of James Bond-ish… very funky.

She uses the beat of the song as a way to hang hundreds of photos… and believe me, the way she has put it together is AMAZING. She used photos in a series… that is, found groups of photos from the same photographer and of the same song/time frame, and timed them with the beat. And it’s a fast beat, so the pictures fly past pretty quickly. Its hard to explain this, but once you watch, you will understand how spectacular this is. And its such a cool song!

Another very awesome thing she does here is to focus on two phrases that repeat: “that you’re looking for” and “I’m the single one”… the pictures and the beat just go on until the last words of those phrases. Again, it’s hard to explain until you see it… extremely cool, and unbelievably creative.

She does use a few clips from Clay and Quiana singing COF...their movements mirror the beat of the song... excellent use of some very sexy moments.

As far as special effects go, goldarngirl doesn’t use very many… the whole focus is on the beat and the spectacular use of photos from the awesome photographers in the ClayNation. It’s a thematic use of the song, in that the whole focus is to show you that Clay Aiken is indeed The Single One. As those gorgeous photos of him march past your eyes, you have very little doubt by the end of the song.

Impact? For me, it was two things: I couldn’t quit watching this outstanding montage… it is absolutely one of the very best! And I immediately got on Amazon and bought Kalan Porter’s cd. AND I’ve been raving about it to all my friends. That’s three things, isn’t it?? g
