The Indiana State Fair concert was a blast, even if it was hotter than Hades. I thank God the storm clouds moved away, and gave us a great night.
Clay is a born entertainer. From the moment he hits the stage, he controls it. He knows exactly what he's doing, even when he veers "off script." I was really struck by how much thought was put into the show -- the details are there. Plus, the show is pretty much a well oiled machine at this point...and it purrs like a kitten. (Sorry Clay, about the cat mention...)
I surprised myself by finding the highlight of the entire show to be Mandy. I've always liked the song...but he imbued it with...something. Gosh, all I know is that it took my breath away. A close second was ICMYLM -- a beautiful, heartwrenching song, sung by a beautiful, gorgeous man.
The key word for this show is FUN! Hey, it's too bad he couldn't have sung "Fun, Fun, Fun" by the Beach Boys...
I still have a hard time imagining what all this must be like for Clay. To be able to put on a show like this, to not care about the critics calling him kareoke, and just put on a fabulous fun show -- he's got to be having the time of his life.
Thanks, Clay. Enjoyed every minute of it. Can't wait to see you again in less than a week.
