Aiken vs Aikman

09/28/05

Monday Night Football has always been my favorite program. The games were usually exciting because the best teams played and there was always so much hype with it. The nine o’clock starts were not too pleasing but was understood for West Coast fans.

Years ago, half-times were interesting, especially college games, with their high-stepping bands, colorful baton and flag twirlers, and color guards. But soon, more commercials, statistics and scores of other games crept into that precious half-time slot.

On Monday, September 26, 2005, the MNF half-time turned out to be not only entertaining but a surprise when Jimmy Kimmel presented Clay Aiken (dressed as Troy Aikman) on his program. Was it because last year someone made a quarterback name error by referring to Troy Aikman as Clay Aiken. Hilarious! And, where did Clay get that jersey and who taught him to throw the ball like that? I was so proud of Clay – at last, my friends of the sports world would see OMC – and he looked so handsome, tall and athletic!

Now, Im thinking that Clay and company could appear in the Orange, Rose or Super Bowl this season. Wouldn’t the 50's-60's medley from the Juke Box Tour and/or some Elvis, Fonze and Barry Manilow be enjoyable? Maybe, we can drop some hints. What do you think?

Oh yes, there’s another similar name to Aiken and Aikman – it’s Akers, kicker for the Philadelphia Eagles. Ouch !
