I grew up in an era when music was at its best—big bands were booming and so was the movie industry. Many band singers became movie stars, e.g., Frank Sinatra. My favorite big band singer was a bubbly blonde with a dreamy voice—her name was Doris Day. Her musical talent coupled with her acting ability made many pictures worth remembering. I’ve tried to sing like her but it’s difficult because she has her own style. Doris Day's nickname was Dodie and when I joined a “Show Biz” group several years ago I changed from my birth name (Doris) to Dodi (dropping the "e")The name stuck and people today call me Dodi—only a few family members call me Doris and/or those who try to tease me.
