Another food adventure

Recently, my husband had to restrict sodium in his diet. Of course, once you or a family member has to do this it turns out everyone you talk to is in the same boat. Does not stop many people from eating junk food I found out.

Okay, so I knew that canned soup and prepared food had lots of sodium. So my first trip to the market to buy the new food took me 4 hours!! Did you know that a small microwave cup of chili has 1200 mg of sodium? Daily recommendation for average diet is 2400 mg with 1500 mg being considered low sodium diet.

Oh, and low sodium products cost 10 times what normal ones do. I paid 4 bucks for a small bottle of ketcup.

So then I decide to check the nutritional (?) value of fast food. One sandwich at a popular sub shop has over 2400 mg of sodium. Alas the saddest fo all was hubbys fave ONE piece of a well-known brand of fried chicken has over 1200 mg of sodium. They must boil it in salt first.

Now I have to buy low cholesterol, too. The only problem I ran into was when I tried to buy fake butter. The first one I tried smelled really bad and looked like something pulled from a kitchen drain after 30 years of buildup. I think maybe it was bad when I bought it.

Resetting your food buying habits is no fun. Got my market trips down to 2 hrs.
