I got the call to babysit tonight. Two girls, 10 and 12 that live near me. I took over two of the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF boxes I ordered. I thought the older one might go for it, but I wasn't sure about the younger one. I told OlderGirl about it, and a little about UNICEF. She was interested, and the more she thought about it the more interested she became. I watched Clay's Uganda slideshow "because it doesn't play right on my computer, so now's my chance." She even walked over near the end and watched it right next to me. (They both know I'm a total Claymate.) She asked me if she needed to wait until Halloween or if she could start raising money right now! I told her to go for it! She told me a friend of hers had wanted to have a lemonade stand for victims of Katrina and that they should give that money to UNICEF. Then she ran upstairs and got $2 out of her piggy bank and put it right into her box. "One my aunt gave to me, I'll tell her about this later." She also suggested her sister's girl scout troup.
YoungerGirl came in and we gave her a box as well. I started to tell her about UNICEF, but she knew all about it from watching Cartoon Network. She even told me about the Trick-or-Treat game she played on their website and that she thought it was related to UNICEF as well. She seemed all up for it because "it's good to raise money." Then she told me how she was going to trick-or-treat with two of her friends and how she should get them to do it as well, then they could all get money from the same house. Smart girls.
I was so excited that they were so excited that I put a dollar in each of their boxes.
