RIP mom...

I just wanted to pay tribute to my mom. The woman who watched me take my first breath....I watched , yesterday as she took her last....I cannot believe she is gone . My heart breaks... Mama...I will miss you. Tell dad hello...hope you had a great long hug..its been a long while!

Helen Van Horn
CHARLES CITY - Helen Van Horn, 77, of Charles City, died Thursday (Dec. 27, 2007) at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services for Helen Van Horn will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main in Charles City. Pastor Fanny Hansen, of the Community of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.

The family will greet friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Helen Josephine Ritter Scofield Van Horn was born Aug. 20, 1930 in Marble Rock, the daughter of Clifford and Dorothy (Taylor) Ritter. She graduated from the Charles City High School in1948.

On April 15, 1951, she was united in marriage to John Scofield. John died on Sept. 23, 1962. Helen then married Keith Van Horn on Dec. 30, 1963. Keith died on July 21, 2003. Helen and Keith owned and operated Keith's Trailer Sales for several years.

She enjoyed knitting, reading romantic novels, camping, coffee with friends and attending the Birthday Club. Helen took special interest in her children and grandchildren.

Living family members include eight children: Jolene (Russ) Godbey, of Charles City, John (Denise) Scofield, of Colorado, Gary (Zen) Van Horn, of O'Fallen, Ill., Joy (Tom) Brown, of Mason City, Marty (Kim) Van Horn, of Fremont, Neb., Janan (Bob) Berstler, of Solon, Jayne Hall, of Nevada, and Lori (Paul) Wood, of Clear Lake; 22 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Dean (Barb) Ritter and Bill (Sandy) Ritter, both of Minneapolis, Minn., and Mike (Mick) Ritter of Arvada, Colo.; and a sister, Mary Shultz, of Lakewood, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; a brother, Roy Ritter; and a sister, Jean Schultz.
