POEM FOR CLAY FOR HIS B-DAY
11/14/05 CLAY
I was reading the new book bought for me, With the TV on just for company.
When a sound suddenly fell on my ears, Something I hadn't heard in many years.
Looking up, I saw a slender fellow, With a certain grace, whose voice was mellow.
He was handsome in his own unique way, I really thought I'd not forget that day.
He had a special manner, kind of pure, I bet he’s had a good mother, for sure.
I stopped reading just to take in the scene, My mood had changed, as if in a dream.
"Who is that," I thought, "whose chords filled the air, And what exactly was he doing there."
Listening closely I found out right away, American Idol was on that day.
I strained my ears to hear who he was, And the numbers to dial to vote for his cause.
I grabbed up my pen and was ready to write, I thought to myself, "It's a special night."
Listening as Ryan stated each digit,
All I could do was sit there and fidget.
Finally I got the right numbers down, My heart was pounding, my head spinning round.
I looked up again, to see his sweet smile, A voice inside said, "Just sit there and dial."
Selecting each number as if in a tizzy,
I couldn't believe it, I felt so dizzy.
I thought "Oh no, I didn't get his name", Words came to mind, "I'll not be the same."
Finally I heard, "Vote for Clay Aiken." All I knew, I was visibly shaken.
I watched the next night, to see who had won. I could not believe it, when all was done.
Clay's fans begged for much more music to come, The next thing I knew he went double platinum.
Since that special night my life's not dull, With Clay Aiken in it, I now feel whole.
I thank God each day for Clay's gift so dear, I ask Him, "Watch over Clay -- keep him near."
