[70] Something Worth Living For
09/29/07Well guys... something special for the 70th entry.
Yesterday evening I just happened to log on to MySpace to check things out. By the off chance, Shayne Ward had a bulletin out about CD Signings, so I clicked on to see where he was and cursed myself for not having the single No You Hang Up/If That's Okay With You. Upon clikcing I found out that he was to be in Donegal Square Arcade HMV at 9am this morning. Seeing as I hadn't seen Shay since January of this year and I've had a horrible week, I thought it might do me good to go, even if it did mean a 7:30am start.
Guess what? I got up at 7:30 on a Saturday and went to Belfast. My niece, mum and me arrived at HMV in Donegal Sq. at around 8:45 this morning. Caoimhe was hyper, I was feeling blurred and sick, and overall I just wanted to get to see Shayne. We were barely in line for five minutes when a lady came up and told us to come with her. Myself and another girl in a wheelchair were led to the front of the que. For an hour, or maybe more, we danced, sang and laughed to Shayne's songs being played in the store. I was right beside the table, it was getting more and more agonising to wait. Mum sorted out my book which I had brought with me on the off-chance he might sign it for me as it contains my heart and soul in the pages.
Eventually we heard screaming, which didn't stop so quick as it previously had done. Shayne was in the room. He went to the wheelchair in front of me, and I couldn't help but notice how he came down to her level and talked away. I had my chair up full height, and Shayne was on about the same level as me. The crowd were screaming as he had waved at them, and I started laughing, he looked to me as I looked to him and the expression just went "Mental, huh?".
Shayne came over and said hello and the first of what felt like a thousand thanks for coming. I gave him the CD cover to sign, and while he did that I asked him if he could sign "my very important book". His words were "You want me to sign your book too? Yeah, no problem!". I smiled and started to open the book, he stopped me and gave me the CD cover and then helped me to hold and open the book. He said thanks for coming, again, and I gave him a teddy that said "Someone Special" on it. He went "Is this for me? Aww, thank you so much!". Then, the press wanted a picture. I turned to the cameras expecting a side-by-side picture, but Shay had a very different plan. He put his hand on my back, his head to mine and smiled that beautiful smile of his. When he came away from the pose, he talked to my niece, then turned to me again. "Thank you so much for coming,' was what came out of his mouth, and what I kept saying was, "No, thank you!". He stroked my back, and I could feel in his touch, presence and in his eyes and voice how much he really meant everything he said.
Shayne Ward is without a doubt one of the kindest, most gentle and genuine "stars" I have ever met. He over-exceeded my high expectations of him. I only hope he knows by my big smile, if not my sick appearance, that he's put the biggest smile on my face today since the last time I saw him in January. Thank you...
