We have another scorcher here today so I'm inside listening to Clay songs.
Yesterday I listened to "LTS" on CD. I had already (gently) read my autographed copy, but then lovingly put it away for safe keeping.
For me, the words had more impact spoken in that soft southern drawl, then when I read them myself. It was easy to block out the world and concentrate on what Clay was saying. Again I found myself feeling for the lonely, ostracize child and felt tears well up in my eyes. Later on, it felt good to laugh along at his funny quips. LTS is such a roller coaster of emotions.
In the end I sat for a moment and let his words digest in my mind. The thought came to me, only someone with an old soul can be full of such wisdom and insight at such a young age.
Although I still can't adequately define why I'm so drawn to this man and his voice, I do know that in part, it's due to a genuine goodness that shines from deep within him. I was not aware of how I had allowed life to turn me cynical, until I saw the trusting person Clay is and how I once also felt that way.
I'm sure our paths will never cross, but with just that insight and his kind example, he has done so much for me. How could I do anything less, than be a loyal fan for as long as he desires to be in the limelight?
