I have been a part of a local Arabian horse club since it began nineteen years ago. During those years I have had the opportunity to serve as president, vice president, board member, show committee chairman and show manager as well as DJ for the music that we play at our shows. I will be serving as treasurer for the club in 2008.
Our club is often active in community projects and has helped to raise money for those in need due to illness or personal tragedy. We have also sponsored a child, (Kenny) with special needs who a group of us taught to ride. He went on to compete in Special Olympics, winning several medals in regional competition. Having the opportunity to work with Kenny is one of my fondest memories.
The horse club's most recent community service is raising money to help bring the Black Stallion Literacy Project to the local school district. We have been successful in raising a little over $4,000 of the $6,000 needed to bring the program to all of the first and fourth grade classes in the district. The goal of the BSLP is to develop good reading skills beginning with first grade students. A follow-up of the program, when those students become fourth graders, further instills an interest in reading that will, hopefully, stay with them for the rest of their life.
We are still almost $2,000 short of the funds needed to insure that the entire first and fourth grade program is funded for our local schools for 2008 but we hope, with the help of the community and corporate sponsors, that we will reach our goal. My husband is a photographer and I feel that he truly is gifted in this profession. Whether it's a graduation portrait, wedding or special event, he has the knack of capturing images that tell a story and show the emotion of the moment. This technique is often sought after in today's weddings instead of the more traditional posed wedding photos.
My Occupation
Business Owner - Manager for both of our businesses and I act as a photography assistant at my husband's photo shoots. I am also an ordained minister and perform wedding ceremonies locally.
My Hobbies
I have two purebred Arabian horses and one 3/4 Arabian horse. Drawing and sculpting are two other hobbies but I don't often have time to work on them.
