  • I felt the earth move!

    04/18/08 0 Comments

There are two "weather" things that I've always wanted to be involved with: an earthquake and a hurricane. I've been through blizzards. I've been through tornadoes. But those two things have eluded me for good reason in that I lived most of my life in a place that's nearly devoid of water and over generally the weakest fault lines in the country.

But whoo!! After this morning, my list is now down to one! I woke up this morning, just a little, with the thought, "I think my bed is shaking. Why is my bed shaking?"

I sleep pretty soundly, so it's really a wonder that I woke up at all. I mean, I've slept through tornado sirens with the windows open. I've slept through thunder that rattles windows. But I did wake up this morning, just not a lot, which is a little bit of a pity. I would have like to at least enjoy the earthquake that I've waited my whole life to experience.

My eyes didn't even open this morning. If they had maybe I'd have noticed things moving slightly like my coworkers reported. Instead I just laid there, barely awake thinking in the back of my mind that if this were an earthquake being on the third floor was probably a bad plan, and maybe I should get in a doorway or something like Tommy Lee Jones made his daughter do in Volcano. I also thought, "if it's not an earthquake, that's a really large truck going by." I live at the juncture of two interstates, so it's not like that's an unusual occurrence. I also live in the flight paths of the both the international and private airport in town. So a large plane wasn't an impossibility either. But, it was an earthquake. Whoo!

And I know Becky will shake her head at this (being from Pensacola), but I still want to be in a hurricane. Just a little one though.

    Random thoughts:

    1. Someone must not like babies. There was the earthquake this morning. Then at the first walk of the season for work, the wind blew away the balloon arch and it knocked over a pop-up tent, hitting a few people. (No one was hurt.) And this afternoon, there was a murder/suicide discovered at the walksite for tomorrow.

    2. The Southwest Chicken Caesar salad rocks!! Just make sure they include the black beans and the corn on it or it's not the same. Take note, Louisville. Frankfort makes it better.

    3. Everytime I hear someone say "Spartanburg, South Carolina", like they just did introducing a contestant on tonight's Jeopardy, I always wonder what happened to my third grade penpal, Fakeisha Peoples, who lived there.

    4. Happy Birthday to Angela O'Neil on the 19th!
