Did you ever realize that it isn’t that easy to get away from Clay? It’s worse than when you break up with someone and everything you see/hear/do takes you back.
I wasn’t even looking for things that reminded me of Clay while on vacation. I figured the last thing I was going to do on our family vacation was to talk about Clay. My hubby is great but he just doesn’t quite “get it” and this was my way of proving I was “ok”. Yeah right.
Easier said than done.
We went to Walt Disney World - a vacation we had planned and paid mostly for long before things started falling in on my head. We stayed at a value resort - the Pop Century. We were in the 50's building and the huge icon that identified our building was a huge jukebox. Of course.
Near our pool they played 50's music and in the food court area they would play music from all the different decades. Naturally there were a lot of songs that Clay had sung - either on AI or one of the tours. My kids would hear a song and say “Hey Mom, didn’t Clay sing that?” or “I like Clay’s version much better”. What? I hadn’t noticed. Alrighty then.
I am a big kid at heart so we do almost everything. In Muppet 3-D, there of course is an appearance of Gonzo and the little 3-D experiment’s name is Waldo. Fine. Be that way.
We saw the spectacular fireworks display called “Wishes”. One of the songs on the “soundtrack” is Go The Distance. Of course I had just heard Clay sing (on old Clack) a duet of this song. Figures. Then I had to figure out why it made me teary eyed. Maybe because I believe Clay will go the distance? Or maybe I just missed his voice?
Went into the Virgin Record store and they had MCWL on one of their big displays. Ho ho - oh oh.
One time, our waiter’s name was Clay.
When we were at Millionaire - Play it, the guy that got in the hot seat was from Charlotte, NC.
We went to the ESPN club for lunch one day and my husband ordered the 1/2 lb foot long hot dog. Clay connection?
Cute buns of course. What did you think I was going to say. Geesh!
Eeeek. Clay reminders - no matter which way I turned.
Finally I made it home. Exhausted but we had a great time.
Maybe NOW it would be ok.
Or maybe not.
We went grocery shopping and what did I hear- Clay singing Solitaire.
I give up.
