07/30/07 4 CommentsThe Long Awaited Review Of Me Speaking To Clay Is HERE!
Let's first start off with Clay singing "Oh Come All Ye Faithful". That was the last song he sang before his 3rd and final banter. When he finished, everyone gave him a standing ovation that seemed to last alot longer than it actually was. Let's just say I didn't know he was gonna do this last banter. It was very close to the end of the show and the whole night I was trying to get his attention. Not wildly or anything. I guess I was just a little bouncy. When we first arrived at the theater I ran to check out where my seats would be. We had 2nd row side but it was more like 1st row center! They were completely amazing seats and I was so damn excited I couldn't sit still all night. Not to mention Clay was looking at me every now and then but seemed to be totally ignoring me. It was so frusterating. I was actually thinking WTH CLAY!?! You know I wanna talk to you, why do you keep acting like that!?! It wasn't until OCAYF I figured out he might have some bigger plans for me than I had for myself. "Let me get the lights up one more time - I promise we won't do anymore else, we'll have a seizure or something". Everyone laughed. "All the lights coming on up....HOUSE LIGHTS UP...Heeeeeeeeey!" The microphone echoed Clay's southern twang. "Let me see" he said while looking around, although his eyes seemed to have locked into mine for most of the "pretend searching". "How much did you pay for that seat?" An excited fan nearby me said "Me?" Here I am pointing at myself too, thinking you are kidding, right!?! he can't possibly mean me! Answering the other girl Clay says "No this lady - this girl in the green". Studdering and totally forgetting the color shirt I had on, I peeked down and saw a glimpse of green. "M..me?" I studder. My mom whispers "$68" as I sit there completely dumbstruck that Clay Aiken is talking to me. "Oh...$68!" I say. "$68 and you ain't used it yet! You have been sitting on this much of that chair the whole night!" The place erupts with laughter. I don't feel real anymore. In a disoriented, squeaky voice I say "I wanted to give you a present!" Clay's eyes don't leave mine and I'm starting to feel a little nervous. What's gonna happen next!?! is running through my mind. "Well I.." Clay makes all these funny studdering noises and then he says "I'm afraid". he mumbles something to the orchestra or audience (can't really remember) and he tells me "Well you can - set it up on stage and..." Clay clears his throat purposely "when it's safe, imma get it". My legs at this point feel like jello. I can hardly stand! I have huge heels on! What if I fall? OMG! As gracefully as I possibly can I get up and set the present on the stage. It was a cute little nutcracker holding a card that said "Thanks for coming to Michigan! Hope you have a nice Christmas". (I got this for Clay because he said he collected ornaments from fans for his Christmas tree and while this wasn't an ornament, I thought he could set it out on a shelf at Christmas time and remember how much his fans adore him). While I set the present on the stage and brace myself for a minute, Clay asks me my name. "Nicole" I mumble, quickly glancing up at the singer I have adored forever sitting on the stool, looking back down at me. "Nicole, thank you very much!" At this point I'm about ready to head back to my seat but my damn legs feel like rubber and the heels are not helping and if that's not bad enough, a cord is right under my shoe and I can feel it protruding from the carpet. I wobble slightly and put my hand up to sort of brace myself from something really bad happening (I couldn't stomach the thought of falling infront of all those people and Aiken himself!) Clay sees my hand in the air and he remarks "Now you - yes wave to the audience! Everyone applaud for Nicole!" He was having some fun with me but man I felt a little embarassed. I'm normally a shy person and that was like hundreds of eyes on me in less than a second. Everyone started clapping and cheering, I just turned around and threw my arms up like "Oh well!" and smiled at the crowd. "Now Nicole, I would get as much use out of that chair as you can -sit on back and relax. Whose the lady beside you?" "My mom" I reply. "Your mom. Does she smell?" Clay asks with a bit of humor in his voice. "You don't wanna sit that close to her?" At this point I just became jello. "No Clay, it's just that I love you so much. I love you Clay." I'm sure about a billion I love you's came out. I don't even know if I was thinking when I said that. I was just like Oh MY GOD! This is surreal! No one's gonna believe this! The whole time Clay just looked at me like Oooooookkk then? LMAO. Then he actually said, "Oh, ok. Did mom pay for that seat?" I was so excited to be talking to him I began to studder and kind of squeak out "No, actually I bought my ticket..." Clay nods "Uh-huh" "Because I babysat..." At this point I was just rambling some pointless stuff. I don't even remember what I continued on saying and I couldn't make it out on the DVD. I totally just rambled for a few seconds there. Clay nodded again "Uh-huh. I don't need the names of the children you babysat". "But Clay!" I yelled out. "I almost died! The..." I was totally rambling again. I couldn't for the life of me say a simple sentence!! My brain was like starstruck. Clay turns and looks at the orchestra who was on a time limit which none of the fans knew about until after the show. "Don't hold this against me please. This is her" he says. I continued talking, still totally rambling..looking back, I wish I would have appeared much smarter and not so DUH!?! But Clay fans have a tendency to do those things around Clay, LOL. It was classic at it's purest when Heather B. forgot where she lived while singing on stage with Clay. I was having one of those moments. "Yeah ok" Clay said. "Put it in a letter, save it forever". He was trying to be funny and get the crowd to laugh, which they did. That's his sense of humor at every show. "So - Let me find out - Nicole I imagine you're one of them - Oh no, no! Who has never been to these Clay Aiken shows?" So...I thought that was pretty exciting, but it didn't end there. I guess Clay wanted to show that he truly did appreciate me as a fan and he was just kidding around with me while we were chatting. While he was singing "My Grown Up Christmas List" there is a line in the song that says "Everyone would have a friend" and he sung that line to me from the stool he was on, in the center of the stage. He was staring straight into my smiling eyes and he winked at me. I almost collapsed right then and there. I was like this is really happening to me? If that wasn't proof enough he was thankful, he walked over to my side of the stage while singing "Don't Save It All For Christmas Day" and when I say he was CLOSE, I'm not kidding. If he reached his arm out I could have probably held his elbow. Anyways, he squatted down and picked up the little candy cane striped gift bag sitting on the stage. His sparkling eyes felt as if they were burning into mine. He seriously didn't even blink I don't think. Then he gave me the most beautiful smile in the world and winked at me again. This time it was much more personal. I'm not saying the guys in love with me. I'm just saying that was a very personal wink. It was directly to me and the man was like 2 feet away. He signed me thank you in sign language and set my gift up on the stool he was sitting on. At the end of the show, Jesse, Clay's musical director brought my gift backstage. That was the only gift to make it backstage at the show. I was so thrilled with the whole night. I realized that Clay is very observant with his fans. He totally knows what they want and he will mess with them a little but deep down he really does appreciate them. His thank you to me was very heartfelt and the smile on his face with that beautiful wink said it all. Clay was always famous for his wink and I never got one until that night. It's a memory I will never be able to shake. He knew that by talking to me it would totally make my night, but he went above and beyond to make my night even more special than it already was. I had a great time at the show and am so thankful to canfly who was lucky enough to catch the audio and the video where clay talks and sings to me on camera. I still hope to win a meet and greet and get to kind of see the "personal Clay" and not "stage Clay" but I really am thankful for the luck I was given at that show. If nothing else I can always say I was spoken to, sung to, smiled at and winked at by Mr. Aiken himself all in one night.
