11/06/05 4 CommentsI will meet Clay Aiken on Tuesday
For ages I have wondered what it would be like to actually meet Clay Aiken. Like other fans I've had visions of long conversations over tea with lots of laughter and sharing.
Of course reality will be nothing like that. I won a Meet and Greet opportunity for the Oakland Concert Nov. 8. From reading the boards I gather it will be a very brief experience, very controlled and over before I know what happened.
Sigh. Real life rarely measures up to fantasy, does it?
In a way I am quite happy for the simple opportunity to say hi and have my Learning to Sing book signed, despite my fantasies. For one thing, it is a rare chance to meet Clay at all, and to win such a chance is nothing to sneeze at. For another thing, I can't pretend that I would ever know Clay well enough to carry on a so-called "deep conversation" at the drop of a hat, so saying hi and moving on is actually quite appropriate.
All I know is, this will be an experience I won't ever forget. I have been a fan since the Atlanta audition was shown on TV, and I haven't wavered. I have so much respect for the compassionate, intelligent, gifted person who is Clay Aiken, and it will be an honor to finally meet him face to face.
