As a young teenager, I was blessed to have an exceptionally great best friend. We shared our love of music (Elvis at the time) as well as life in general. And like all teeny boppers at the time, we were both totally in love with Elvis. We eeeeeeeed before we even knew what that meant. Anyway, she passed away very suddenly and in her room, her parents found a diary she had kept secret from everyone...including me. In it, she had a copy of a poem and had written my name beside the verse.
True friends are like diamonds,
Precious and rare.
False friends are like autumn leaves,
Falling everywhere.
The last few days I've been remembering that verse and thinking how it relates to Clay and to the Clay Nation. I think Clay may be searching for his true friends...those that he knows he can trust and depend on during the good and the bad times. He has LOTS of friends, I'm sure, but are they false ones. Are they there just for their own 15 seconds of fame. Do they only want the prestige of being beside him. Which group do we, his fans, fit into. Most of us are TRUE friends. And, I do mean friends. I honestly think he could call any one of us and we would be there to hold his hands late into the night just talking through the challenges of the day. That's what friends do. We don't dictate...we listen. That's what I think Clay needs now...friends who listen.
That's also what I love about Clayversity. Even though I am a BIG time lurker, I feel that you are all friends and you fall in the true category. I read the mutterings and frustrations, but I also read the sharing and follow through of ideas. All of you continue to amaze me. This board is like no other. I applaud the admin's. You allow give and take and when necessary, remind us of values.
I know this post doesn't make sense to anyone. But the quiet night, a handsome young man's picture sitting at the corner of my keyboard and the wine just all came together and I had to let it out.
