For the most part, I have kept my promise to myself and stayed out of any threads focused on tabloid gossip. Unfortunately, I happened upon a cryptic comment on one of boards and decided I had to take a peek.
I'm not about to rehash what I read here, but I did want to commit one important (IMHO)thought to print.
From this day on, any Clay fan who posts on a gossip site - especially PH's - has to own responsibility for being part of the problem and continuing the hate. By defending Clay, by giving these sites hits of any kind, they are harming Clay, their fellow fans, and putting money in the pockets of the site owners, which allows them to continue their evil business. In my opinion, these actions are an insult Clay. He has all but come right out and asked us to ignore them. He has faith in God to guide his life, how dare we interfere.
Tabloid stories of this nature will happen again and again.
A few weeks ago I was watching an MSNBC discussion about the Oprah/James Frey episode. They asked two media experts if they thought that Oprah taking the author to task about his lies would start a revolution toward truth in print. Despite the power and influence of Oprah, they both agreed that nothing would change. The public cares more about "what is interesting and provocative" than the truth.
We can spend all our time trying to protect Clay or we can spend that same time celebrating him. I'm going to do my best to make what I feel is the right choice.
