Whoever said 'You can't teach an old dog new tricks' was certainly barking up the wrong tree where I'm concerned. I've seen and learned things that have given me surprises beyond what I ever could have imagined and things that have caused tremendous disappointment.
*I've learned that friends can hurt you in ways you never thought possible. As a wise person told me afterwards, 'While you think you may be missing an opportunity to be part of something you think is great with others, they are missing an opportunity to be with someone wonderful. YOU!'
*I've learned that people come into your lives unexpectedly and never leave, thank goodness. They bring with them warmth, humor and caring.
*I've learned that facing your fears is much easier said than done. But,...there will always be loving arms (and many of them) behind me if I fall. And I guarantee you that I will.
*I've learned to expect more from me and when I accomplish or do something I never have before, I smile big time because I know I have angels on my side to guide me.
*I've learned that being with family is very important to me and that the times we spend together are worth more than their weight in gold.
Being human, we always try to face the prospect of the New Year with anticipation...it's as if we've been given a blank sheet of white paper and all the colors of the rainbow in markers. We can create what we see for ourselves in the year ahead. It's like starting over, and don't we all deserve that at times?
2007 has been a year I'm glad to say good-bye to. I've been disappointed too many times to count. Sometimes I felt like I've been a standing target for some. Like the song says, I kept coming 'back for more' because I believed that's what I deserved.
Then I turn around and receive loving kindness that I never thought I'd see again. Like a pair of old comfortable shoes...things just fit and it feels good.
My family's been blessed this year with a new addition that, in time, will be sure to turn a few female hearts if his proud papa has anything to say about it. My brother? A grandpa? Impossible!
Now that I'm taking out my list and checking it twice (heard that in a song somewhere), I've discovered that maybe 2007 wasn't so bad after all.I've found that maybe your heart has a cushion around it. It helps you bounce back from hurt and disappointment. I've found that maybe the best things in life are unexpected gifts from lifelong friends.That maybe you are special to someone else and your smile, your laugh, your humor and your thoughfulness make someone else's bad days seem not so bad.
Hmmmm....2007....on a scale from 1-10, now that I'd think of it, I'd give you a 7 plus. Good beat and easy to dance to.
But 2008? Watch out!! I've got my paper and markers ready....I'm gonna be Kreativv.....remember, that's one K and two v's!!
