  • History? Bah! I'll just catch it the second time around!

    10/27/07 0 Comments

Me? I always have an eye to the future. Sir Pookle? Always an eye for the past. Recently he brought up an interesting conversation: He challenged me to come up with 10 things I would like to see from the past. I successfully veered the conversation into time travel, worm holes and black holes for a while, but, alas, to no avail.

My first reaction was: History? Who needs it! I'll just wait to catch it the second time around! But after thinking about it, if I was forced to be around 80-100 years ago, there are a few things I wouldn't mind being a part of...

    • A surgical theater! As a viewer, not a patient, of course. I often wonder what Dr's discussed back then.

Surgeon 1: Where do you cut?

Surgeon 2: I cut left of center!

    Surgeon 1: BRILLIANT!

    Surgeon 2: BRILLIANT!

Yeah, ok. I do tend to think of old time surgeons as the guys in the beer commercials. But seriously, there really wasn't much to talk about technique wise, was there?

    • A suffragette protest! If you know me, you understand. (Run, RON PAUL, RUN!)

    • A Worlds Fair! Back then, they actually had some significance in showcasing new ideas and inventions. Not crap made by slave labor.

    • A Vaudville show! I would have liked to have seen the Marx Brothers on stage, uncensored, unscripted, off the wall.

*No mans land- WWI battlefield...errr... Post battle of course. (Yeah, I'm a pansy). The psychological fortitude of surviving such a situation never fails to fascinate me. WTF do I have to complain about? I don't have fleas, and dead rats and bloated corpses and trench foot and waist high mud....

.... Frankly, not much else, as I am impossibly realistic. I understand the stink and the filth, and the hardships involved with the past. I don't romanticize the passage west (Reservation for Donner, party of 8! (ate)- get it?), the pre USDA beef industry, snake oil salesman medicine, etc.

Besides, I'm too busy to study the past, as I am fantasizing about what could happen in the future. Well, that and Clay. Did I mention I have tickets to see him in Spamalot?...

My future? Hopefully holds lots of Deep Voice Clay....
