About stpteach
I'm an elementary ed school teacher, with a background in special ed. I've been teaching for... a really, really long time, which is why a little diversion in the name of Clay Aiken - along with my students - have really helped to keep me young!

03/06/07 2 CommentsB/AF Six Degrees Badge Donation
Well, it's been a while, eh? ;-)
I wanted to post a copy of an email I'd sent to my co-workers today in an effort to drum up more support for the Bubel/Aiken Foundation Badge at the Six Degrees site. If it can be of any help to you for use at your workplace or something you'd feel comfortable sending to friends and family, please do so.
Hi everyone,
As many of you may know, I'm a pretty big fan of the singer, Clay Aiken. (Oh, stop rolling your eyes! There may be someone on this staff that didn't know... ;-) ) What some of you may not be aware of is that Clay, along with Diane Bubel (the mother of a child with autism with whom Clay worked and the woman who pushed him to try out for that little television show back in 2003) formed a foundation to promote the inclusion of children with special needs into programs in which they might not ordinarily participate. The Bubel/Aiken Foundation provides a variety of grants, such as for training of personnel to work with special needs children, providing adaptive equipment for areas such as playgrounds, and most recently the publishing of a book, My Friend Mikayla, about a child with special needs, authored by her third grade classmates. (Why, yes, our media center does have a copy....why do you ask?
) In addition, the B/AF has itself been given a federal grant of a half million dollars to develop an Inclusion Curriculum. Not bad for the guy who came in second, eh? So, the reason I'm sending this lovefest is to ask you to consider partiicpating in a donation challenge by the site, sixdegrees. org. The charity 'badge' that has the most donors (notice it's the number of donors -NOT the amount of $$ ) will receive matching funds up to $10,000. The minimum donation is $10.46 (the 0.46 covers the credit card charge!) and it could help assure the Bubel-Aiken Foundation of an extra $10,000 in matching funds. So, if you're looking for a charity that's been doing some really good works, please consider making a $10.00 donation through the sixdegrees.org site. It can be found here:
http://www.sixdegrees.org/Top.aspx
(Just click on the "TBAF T" badge to make the donation.)If you would like to learn more about the Bubel/Aiken Foundation, first, go here:
http://www.thebubelaikenfoundation.org/home.htm
Thanks in advance, "stpteach"
