I'm a North Carolina girl through and through, and I'm so proud of our sweet Carolina guy!!
My hometown of Drexel (original home of Drexel Furniture and Drexel-Heritage home furnishings) is in the foothills, 200 miles west of Raleigh, 75 miles northwest of Charlotte. It's almost in the mountains but not quite.
I'm a graduate of Appalachian State University in Boone, NC (which is most definitely in the mountains). I taught high school English and drama and was a high school librarian for a collective 32 years before I retired in 2003 -- just in time to become a full time Clay Fan!! My greatest joy has been directing musical theater at my beloved East Burke High School.
I'm a Sagittarian, just like Clay. I love to sing (mostly choral work but some solo)and play the piano (but only for my own amusement), and I am active in my church. I enjoy sewing and am crazy about cross stitching. I also love to travel and have been to every state except Hawaii and all but two Canadian provinces. (OK, all you Canadians, guess which two! Ha!) I have also been to France, Great Britain, Mexico, and Russia.
I first heard about Clay on WBTV in Charlotte. The announcer said a UNCC senior special ed. major would be competing on AI -- so of course I had to tune in to check out the "home team." Wow!! I've been a devoted fan ever since. So far, I've been to 49 concerts, two BAF galas, and the AI3 finale in Greensboro (to see the handsome host).
My mother, who is 90, has been to all these concerts/events as well, and plans to travel with me to see Spamalot in April.. We had planned to attend 16 shows during the summer of 2007, but, unfortunately, she fell and was seriously injured on our way to Frisco. I still managed to get her to 3 concerts, though. We are determined.
I was thrilled to have been chosen to read a story at the Wilkes-Barre, PA, and New Brunswick, NJ, CITH shows. While there, I mentioned to Clay that my mother had been to numerous concerts, and he asked to meet her. It was a wonderful treat for us both. He was so kind and sweet. It was a memory that we will cherish forever.
We were fortunate to be able to meet himagain and have our photo made with him during Spamalot. He remembered us from before, and that was a real dream come true.
