About waterbaby
I live in and dearly love the Pacific northwest, also known as Not-Clay-Land (apparently Clay prefers to slog through sweaty eastern summer humidity rather than tour through heavenly blue-green temperate edible landscapes of plump berries and NW Pine for Raleigh's peeing pleasure - but I digress). I teach, I sing, I drum my djembe and such, but my greatest worldly passion is floating down rivers. Besides just feeling delightful, floating on/in a river is the most beautiful way to learn to flow yourself, whether through a wild, scary place with colliding currents and big waves, or learning to slow down inside and feel the sweet glide down serene waters, and the infinite ways in between that water and life can dance. Oh, and that Clay guy? When he sings, it's a river of sound waves where immersion is bliss.

Ever since seeing the Interlochen ICMYLM Clack, the song has been in the back of my mind. Finally the screamers subsided and Clay's artistry came through in full force on this song.
This is such a subtly powerful song. The lyrics encourage us to free ourselves from trying to control the feelings of others while retaining our own dignity, sense of self worth and power borne of our ability to love deeply ourselves - and they do it not by being preachy, but by emoting the voice of a man caught deeply in unrequited love and coming to intelligent, heartfelt terms with it. Such an awesome, powerful message -- fully enhanced to the level of the finest art via S'von's jazz stylings and Clay's brilliant phrasing, tone, and feel, creating a hauntingly beautiful rendering of the emotional core of the song.
I wish for new songs of this caliber to also make their way to Clay.
Update: Meadowbrook's interpretation of this song is even better - and my fave.
