• FUNTASTIC FRISCO on the FOURTH!

  My recap of attending Clay's 1st concert of the Soft Rock/Hard Place Tour of Summer '07.

  FRISCO:

  I had to help out my church this morning. We always put on a "Freedom Funfest" the morning of July 4th. The cities parade goes right by our downtown church, so we provide some activities for families that come in town for the parade.

  As soon as my part in helping with the festivities were over there, I hopped in my car and headed southwest for Frisco ... about two hours away. While on the road, one of my Clayfriends called me and said they were at the venue checking it out when Clay came strollin' in. He was wearing a long sleeved green striped button down, jeans and sandals. Said his sleeves were rolled up. He was doing sound check.

  I arrived in Frisco about 30 minutes later and went right to the venue and met my friends there. Clay & co were practicing the tv show songs.
  

  Then he started rehearsing the "classics" part. Now of course we could not hear anything going on other than the songs. Sometimes they were just snippets, and sometimes all we could hear was the music.
  We were able to identify most of the songs. Other than "Yeah", I couldn't make out the rap songs, but we could tell he was rappin'.

  Then the music to LAA started and we all got very quiet. He sat on a stool and sang it. After LAA he practied "BYLM" and "God Bless the USA" and his voice was steller. We waited around until all the musicians left ... all random people from various parts of the area.

  Quiana, Angela, Jessie, new drummer guy, Sean, and Mary all left but Clay and Jerome never did, that we know of. We didn't not approach anyone ... but some other fans did and Quiana told them that Clay was going to take a nap.

  We never saw Nick ... although I heard it was reported on the boards that he was there.

  (There was a guy running around who kind of looked like Nick. Well, he was tan and had black hair. But he was shorter than Nick and had a white bucket hat on. I think he was with the venue. We also never saw Jamie, although it was reported that she was there too. shrug )

  After the soccer game ended, we lined up in our sections by these gates to get from the stands to the field. We had to stand there for quite a while. As soon as the gates opened, we ran to the field. jojoct, who got clack of this, named it "The Mad Dash". LOL! We ended up about four rows back, dead center.

  Right to my right was a young teenage fan (13 or 14) who screamed and jumped around all night. She was a mess. Infact, much of the front section was young teenaged girls and boys ... who could screaming. I thought that was great for Clay. The air was electric. A chant of "Clay, Clay, Clay" started it up.

  When Jessie came out he stuck his tongue out at us. He seemed very excited .... couldn't stop smiling.

  Then Quiana came out and then Angela. And then the music started. I think I started crying about now because I knew it was "HYCA". Then we heard his voice but he was no where to be seen yet, just his golden angelpipes singing out ... and then .... here he comes!!!!!!!!!

  Screams .... clapping .... everyone was going nuts.

  "So this is what soccer fans look like?"

  The TV medleys is so "Clay" cuz he loves his TV shows. However, It is cute how he starts it because the orchestra plays the beginnings of "West Wing" and Clay kept tapping his heart and mouthing, "I love this."

  "Who knows this one? Anybody?"

  "Your turn Quiana."

  The toes that would soon make national news!!

  I really enjoyed "TOA". Clay was really into this song as well. He performs it live very nicely. He feels it. WY was beautiful . He was wailing like only he can do! heavy sigh
  And then came "the classic" part. Took Clay awhile to introduce this part in Frisco. I don't know if he was nervous to go into it or if he was just distracted by the people milling about ... but he was going on, and on, and on and looking at Quiana and then at Angela and then back at Quiana and then he just turned and started, "I like big butts ..." and he was off. No stopping now. HE WAS ON FIRE! He was semi-crotch grabbin', like a virgin driving sexy tractors, boot scootin, bringsexyback, "Oops, I did it again" dance with Angela and it was like it was 1999! So much fun! So much energy! LAA is so beautiful. I'm so glad it is his song. I'm so glad he is singing it.

  BYLM was incredible. He was so sweet when he sang it and we were all singing it to him. I think it touched him and his voice was so pure.

  God Bless the USA was amazing as well. His voice was soaring.

  And then he was gone.

  Parting words ..... We watched the fireworks, although they seemed anit-climatic. g Took us forever to get out of the park. What a traffic mess.
  We went and got some fast food and took it back to the hotel lobby. It looked like "command center" in there with all the laptops open and in business. I think we could have landed the shuttle.

  And amazingly, not one drop of rain the whole day except for a few sprinkles during sound check.
