I've been neglecting my blog and I've been back home since Monday. Bad, Bad.
Saturday, July 30 - started off to drive to Darien Lake. I drove to Buffalo last year and had no problems, delays whatsoever so I left an hour later than last time. Big mistake. Delay #1 - toll both on Blue Water Bridge. How can you get in the exact change lane if you can't see the toll which was posted in tiny letters right next to the booth? Delay #2 - immigration/customs in Sarnia, ON. Delay #3 (the biggie) - Heavy traffic on the Q.E.W. Niagara. Delay #4 - traffic at immigration on the Peace Bridge in Buffalo. Meanwhile, my friend carouselnut is calling me every 5 minutes (it seemed) to see if I was in the US yet. Finally get to the hotel before 5 - two hours later than planned.
At hotel, carouselnut hurries me into getting ready and then realizes that it's 5 pm not 6 and we even have time to eat. Phew!
I had bought an 11th row ticket on TM a couple of days earlier so at the gate I ask where box office is. The guy says "Something wrong with your ticket?" Me (in small voice) - "I upgraded." He clearly does not understand this but tells me where box office is.
Finally - it is time for concert. Seat is quite good and there is hardly anybody in the row - a man and his (I think) granddaughter next to me and a couple of people farther down the row. Finally show begins - loved the energy of it all, 50s medley, Elvis, WDC, BFM. I have to admit that the song "Sailing" has always put me to sleep (actually heard it on XM radio today) and while Clay does a lovely job, I still don't care for the song. I knew the setlist and had been at the first CV cellcert but had avoided dl'ing Clack so it was new to me.
After show, went up to carouselnut's seat. She was sitting there with her mouth open and a dazed look on her face - absolutely speechless. If you knew carouselnut, this doesn't happen (she did recover later).
